Privacy
Your details.
What we collect, why, and how to get rid of it.
What we collect
- Email sign-ups: your email address (and your name, if you gave one).
- Visit statistics: we count visits to our pages and shop without cookies, and we store nothing on your device. We keep totals only: pages viewed, roughly how long a page was open and how far down it you scrolled, where you arrived from (for example Instagram, Google or a link we tagged with a campaign name), the kind of device, browser and operating system, the hour of the day, and an approximate place (country, region and city) that our hosting provider, Cloudflare, works out from your connection. We never store your IP address.
- What you click: we count clicks on links and buttons on our pages, by the page, a short label (such as "Add to cart") and where the link goes (a page on this site, or just the name of another site, never its full address). We never record what you type into any box or form.
- Shop steps: we count how many people view a product, add it to the cart and start checking out. When you start checking out we note which source your visit came from and keep it with the order, so we know which posts and links bring sales.
- Counting people: to count how many different people visited, and to tell one visit from the next (a visit ends after 30 quiet minutes), we use a scrambled one-day code made from your connection and browser. It cannot be turned back into your address and it changes every day, so it cannot follow you. It is kept for a day or two, except the "on the site now" list, which is wiped after five minutes. We do not count visitors whose browser tells us not to track them (Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control).
What we use it for
- Signing up for our emails (the pop-up, the footer box or the sign-up page) takes effect straight away: you are on our list as soon as you press the button, and we send nothing to check it.
- We send PumpLife's emails only to people who asked for them: by signing up.
- We do not sell your details, and we do not give them to anyone to market to you.
Whinge to the editor
The "Whinge to the editor" button lets you ask us something or tell us something. We store only what you type: the kind of message you chose, the message itself, the name and contact details if you choose to leave them, and the time it was sent. Leaving details is optional. Leave them blank and the message is anonymous: we do not store your network address, your browser or anything else that could say who sent it. To slow down floods, the form briefly counts how often one connection posts, but nothing from that is kept with your message.
Messages can be read only by people the paper has chosen, in its back office, and are kept until we delete them. To have a message removed, message @pumplife_official on Instagram and tell us roughly when you sent it and what it said.
Where it is kept
Your details are stored with our hosting provider, Cloudflare, and are only seen by the people who run the paper.
Unsubscribing
Every email we send to our list has an unsubscribe link. Press it and we stop emailing you. We keep your address on our list, marked as unsubscribed, so we know not to email you. Signing up again on this site does not switch your emails back on: we only do that if you ask us to. If you would rather we deleted your address altogether, ask us below.
Asking us to delete your details
To see what we hold about you, or to have it removed, message @pumplife_official on Instagram. Tell us the email address you used and we will sort it out. We delete your subscriber record, the scrambled record that your email address was confirmed, and any other record that used that address (or a version of it with a +tag, or dots in a Gmail address).
